On My Bookshelf: Energize

This book is a 10/10! Big themes for me in the past year where ENERGY, VISUALISATION and GRATITUDE. This book gave it me all.

As they say, ‘if you can dream it you can do it’. This is why I love the concept of manifestation - the idea that you can devise your reality by visualising it clearly happening then trusting the universe to deliver. This book is like an injection of energy and sunshine into your life! After reading this I felt so uplifted and positive.

The book speaks about the fact that if you think about something you want to do, the person you want to become, you need to really know that this IS happening, no doubt about it, it’s already in the works and things are being taken care of to get you there. I found this mindset a comfort when I had left my corporate job with no plan and no clear path forward. I had to have faith that I would make the moves to take me where I wanted to be. I knew I didn’t want to be stuck any more so I had to keep moving and trying. When you don’t exactly have evidence it can be hard but that is where you have to let the ‘knowing’ take over. I knew I would end up exactly where I was supposed to be.

This book focuses a lot on gratitude which I think is the most underrated medicine. Being grateful for what you have, even the challenges, can change your perspective massively and invite in positive things. Focusing on what you have and what you get to do ‘I get to be frustrated about this piece of work, I am grateful I have a piece of work’ OR ‘I get to go for a run which I find hard, I am grateful my legs let me run’ (vs. what you lack) changes the way you move.

Finally, ‘to become a success story you must be willing to look stupid and like a beginner for a long time before you start getting things right’ is just what most people need to hear when taking a leap into something uknown. When working in my digital and marketing jobs over the years I was often a beginner then and that was ok to me, wasn’t it?! so reminding myself that being a beginner at coaching or at being self employed and the challenges that came with that is just part of the journey. Being proud that I allowed myself to try something new and scary and accepting that part of it was feeling stupid sometimes gave me the freedom to do it anyway.

Time is passing anyway, so do you want to take the plunge and try the new thing and embrace feeling silly or do you want to avoid it and stay exactly where you are? This book will have you jumping and plunging in no time!
